Trapp, the last surviving daughter of Baron Georg Johannes von Trapp and Maria Augusta Kutschera, died at a nursing home in Morrisville, Vermont, The New York Times reported.

The Trapp Family Lodge announced Rosmarie Trapp’s death on social media.

“Her kindness, generosity, and colorful spirit were legendary, and she had a positive impact on countless lives,” the Lodge wrote in a Facebook post. “We believe the best way to recognize Rosmarie is to demonstrate the same selfless kindness and generosity that she exemplified daily.”

Trapp (who dropped the “von” from her name many years ago) is not a character in the “The Sound of Music,” which focused on the seven children Georg von Trapp had with his first wife, the newspaper reported. Trapp was the first child of Baron von Trapp and Kutschera. Her mother was the woman who was going to be a nun and became a governess with the family, ultimately marrying the baron in 1927, the Times reported.

According to her obituary, Rosmarie Trapp was born on Feb. 8, 1929, in the village of Aigen on the outskirts of Salzburg, Austria. She was raised with her seven older half-siblings and her two younger siblings, People reported.

Rosmarie Trapp did travel and perform with the Trapp Family Singers for many years and was a presence at the family’s lodge in Stowe, Vermont, the Times reported. At the lodge, she would hold singalongs for the guests, the newspaper reported.

The fame of “The Sound of Music,” which starred Julie Andrews as Maria von Trapp in the film and won an Academy Award for best picture in 1966, was a sticking point for Rosmarie Trapp.

“I used to think I was a museum,” she told the Chicago Tribune in 1997, “but I can’t escape it.”

“Now I’m using it as a tool. I’m not a victim of it anymore.”

Trapp’s brother, Johannes von Trapp, is the last living member of the original family singers, the Times reported.
